The Lady chapel was converted into an Easter garden for the end of Lent and the beginning of Eastertide. This is the third year that we have done this and it has proved great fun and very powerful.
The life-size garden is built from suspending cloth to create the illusion of walls while the interior of the chapel is laid somewhat bare to give the feeling of being in a tomb. Outside the chapel artificial grass and plants give the impression of a small tomb garden. The really poignant part of the tomb is that communicants leaving the high altar on a Sunday have to walk into the back of the chapel and then come out of the tomb as if they too were being resurrected. A number of visitors on Easter Sunday said that this unexpected "mini-pilgrimage" had moved them to tears.
Many thanks to the volunteers who made this possible.
